Skin Lightening

What is Skin Lightening?

Skin lightening is a cosmetic procedure that helps you achieve a lighter skin complexion. It also helps in lightening the dark patches of the skin. The skin lightening procedure works by reducing the production of melanin in the skin. Melanin is produced by cells known as melanocytes and is responsible for protecting our skin from the sun by giving color to it. The amount of melanin produced in the skin differs for each person and is majorly determined by genetics. The rule is pretty simple – if the production of melanin is high, then the skin would have a darker color. Apart from this, sunlight, chemicals, and hormones are also responsible for the production of melanin. So to reduce the level of melanin, we use approved skin lightening techniques for our patients

What are the different Skin Lightening techniques?

Glutathione Injections

Glutathione injection is a skin-lightening agent that helps in reducing the production of an enzyme called tyrosinase. This enzyme is responsible for increasing the melanin levels in our body. Apart from lightening the skin tone, Glutathione Injection can also detoxify your body and protect the skin from harmful UV rays. Glutathione is a naturally occurring antioxidant produced in our liver that helps to remove toxins from the body.

Chemical Peel

In this, we use chemicals like alpha-hydroxy acids that are extracted from natural sources. It will remove the damaged top layer of the skin. It also eliminates the buildup of melanin and allows the formation of healthy tissues. There are 3 types of chemical peels: Light, Medium, and Deep. Each of them differs based on the level of penetration of the peel.

Laser skin lightening

This procedure involves the usage of lasers to lighten dark patches or blemishes in the skin. The laser works either by damaging the cells that produce melanin or by removing the outermost layer of the skin. Before starting this treatment, we will test the procedure in a small area of the skin and understand how your skin reacts to the procedure.

Meso PRP/ Vampire Facial

Made popular by many celebrities, this technique is not as scary as it sounds. Vampire facial is a combination of micro-needling and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). In this procedure, we will extract blood from your arm and introduce it inside a centrifuge to separate plasma and platelets. We then use 0.5 to 2.5 mm needles to puncture your skin; these needles are so small they only penetrate the upper layer of your skin. This causes injury to the cells which triggers the skin to regenerate by promoting the production of collagen and elastin. After the micro-needling process, the PRP is then applied to your skin to boost the healing process.
